Localization of Nerve Endings in Relation to Cholinesterase Deposits in Normal Human Eye Muscles.

چکیده
Neroe endings and deposits of cholinesterase were stained in frozen sections of five normal striated human eye muscles with a stain that combines the neroe fiber techniijue of Hortega and the method of Koelle and Friedenwald for the demonstration of cholinesterase. Cholinesterase deposits are found at the base of the motor end plates. Dense cholinesterase deposits can also he found around thin nerves which form simple ringor buttonshaped endings on muscle fibers. No cholinesterase is seen at the endings of the other type of thin (sympathetic?) nerves which also supply the muscle fibers and have networklike end formations as well as at all types of sensory (afferent) nerve endings in human eye muscle.

Neurophysiology of extraocular muscles.
E. lye movements may be divided grossly into "tonic" and "phasic" movements. Are both of these principal types produced by the same motor nerves and muscle fibers, or are separate systems present that are functionally suited to each of the types of movements? Morphological and physiological studies demonstrate that at least two and possibly three neuromuscular systems are present in eye muscles...

Botulinum toxin causes paralysis of skeletal muscle by preventing the release of acetylcholine at motor nerve terminals (Burgen, Dickens, and Zatman, 1949). It is known that, when a sub-lethal quantity of toxin is injected directly into muscles of experimental animals, paralysis and atrophy of those muscles develop and persist for a long time (Guyton and MacDonald, 1947; Jirmanova, Sobotkova, T...
متن کاملThe demonstration of different types of muscle fibers in human extraocular muscle by electron microscopy and cholinesterase staining
Surgical specimens of normal human extraocular muscle repealed in electron microscopic cross sections two distinct types of extrafusal fibers: (1) a fibrillar type (Fibrillenstniktur) and (2) an essentially afibrillar type (Felderstruktur). Fascicles of autopsy muscle, stained with a modified Koelle technique to demonstrate cholinesterase activity, showed by light microscopy two kinds of nerve ...

Introduction: Organophosphorous (OP) chemical warfare nerve agents are similar to OP pesticides in their structure and toxic mechanisms.. These agents mainly sarin and tabun were used during Iran-Iraq war with high mortalities. Sarin was also used as chemical terrorism in Matsomoto and Tokyo metro in 1994 and 1995, respectively with high morbidity and mortality. Since these lethal agents are st...

The presence of nerve terminals in the tendinous insertions of human eye muscles was investigated histologically in adult human eye muscles obtained from donor eyes and in muscle pieces resected from juvenile patients undergoing surgical correction for strabismus. Lateral and medial recti, superior and inferior oblique muscles from adults, were stained "en bloc" using a silver impregnation meth...
